Quiet Table Guide: June 27-July 5

Scripture: Mark 1:16–20

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

1. Prepare Your Heart

Begin each day with a moment of stillness. Breathe deeply. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you as you sit quietly in Jesus’ presence.

A simple prayer:

Jesus, I want to hear your call today. Give me the courage to say yes.

2. Read

Slowly and prayerfully read Mark 1:16–20 out loud. Read it once or twice each day. Consider reading from a different translation or emphasizing different words

Let the words fall fresh:

  • “Come, follow me.”

  • “At once they left their nets…”

  • “Without delay…”

3. Reflect

What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today?

  • What does it stir in you?

  • Where do you feel resistance?

  • What about this invitation feels risky or uncertain?

Each day, ask:

What might the Holy Spirit be highlighting for me in this story?

4. Respond

Where might Jesus be calling you to say yes right now?

It may be something big or something small:

  • A conversation you’ve been avoiding

  • A decision you’ve been delaying

  • A next step you’ve been too afraid to take

Ask yourself:

What comfort, clarity, or control might I need to release to move forward with Jesus?

What is one small step I can take today in response to His call?

5. Receive

Close your time with a few moments of silence. Let go of the need to perform, produce, or prove anything. Just rest in the presence of Jesus.

A quiet prayer:

Jesus, I trust you. I don’t know where this path leads, but I’m saying yes today.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICE FOR THE WEEK: Welcoming Prayer

This week, try on the Welcoming Prayer—especially when you feel uncertain, stuck, or afraid. Use it as a way to let go of control, comfort, and clarity so you can courageously follow Jesus:

Welcoming Prayer

Jesus, I let go of my need to feel safe before I follow you. Welcome.

Jesus, I let go of my need to be accepted and approved of. Welcome.

Jesus, I let go of my need to stay in control. Welcome.

Jesus, I let go of my need to have clarity and receive your call instead. Welcome.
