Scripture for the week: Acts 20:16–38
“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32)
1. Ready Your Heart
Begin with a moment of silence or a short prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together.
2. Read
Slowly read this week’s passage. (Consider reading it out loud or in a different translation each day.)
3. Reflect
What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today? What in your life might the Holy Spirit be drawing your attention to?
4. Respond
How can you allow this word to shape your interactions, decisions, or perspective today?
5. Receive
Spend a few moments in stillness, surrendering your thoughts, plans, and actions to God and resting in the presence of Jesus.
6. Practice: Have a Send-Off
When Paul’s season in Ephesus came to an end, he and the elders gathered on the beach at Miletus. They named the ending, remembered honestly, committed it all to God, prayed, and wept together. Then they walked him to the ship.
This week, as the holidays approach, have a send-off for one season of your life.
Identify the season. Choose one that has ended, maybe one you’re still grieving or one you’ve never said goodbye to.
Sit at the table with the people who lived it with you. If you’re on your own, sit with God.
Tell a few stories, the good ones and the hard ones, and let yourself feel what comes.
Pray Paul’s words over that season: “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace.”
Then ask one question: “What will we take with us into this new season?”
End by asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into the season you’re in.
If tears come, let them. Jesus wept at the tomb of his friend, even knowing what he was about to do. Tears and trust go together.
The season that ended was a gift. God is present in this one too.
