Quiet Table Guide: Sept 6-12

Scripture for the week: Acts 16:23-40

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. — Acts 16:25

‭‭1. Ready Your Heart

Begin with a moment of silence or a short prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together.

2. Read

Slowly read this week’s passage. (Consider reading it out loud or in a different translation each day.)

3. Reflect

What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today? What in your life might the Holy Spirit be drawing your attention to?

4. Respond

How can you allow this word to shape your interactions, decisions, or perspective today?

5. Receive

Spend a few moments in stillness, surrendering your thoughts, plans, and actions to God and resting in the presence of Jesus.

6. Practice: Name your champion

This week, take an honest look at what you’ve actually been counting on to win the battles you can’t afford to lose.

Ask yourself two questions.

What have I been trusting to get me through? My competence, my control, a relationship, a number in an account?

What would happen to my peace if that thing failed?

Sit with your honest answer. That is where your peace has actually been resting.

If you have never truly believed in Jesus, that he already fought and won the battle you cannot win yourself, tell him that today. Not once you have sorted out every question. Today.

If you already believe, look for one person this week, someone at work, in your family, someone who cannot do anything for you in return, and tend to them the way the jailer tended to the wounds he had caused. Not to earn anything. Because that is what our champion did for us first.
