Quiet Table Guide: Aug 30-Sept 5
Scripture for the week: Acts 16:11-24
This she did for many days. But Paul, becoming distressed, turned and said to the spirit, ‘I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!’ It came out that very hour. — Acts 16:16-18
1. Ready Your Heart
Begin with a moment of silence or a short prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together.
2. Read
Slowly read this week’s passage. (Consider reading it out loud or in a different translation each day.)
3. Reflect
What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today? What in your life might the Holy Spirit be drawing your attention to?
4. Respond
How can you allow this word to shape your interactions, decisions, or perspective today?
5. Receive
Spend a few moments in stillness, surrendering your thoughts, plans, and actions to God and resting in the presence of Jesus.
6. Practice: What is gripping me?
Pick one space and sit with it honestly.
How does your level of either security or scarcity affect what you believe about God?
If God asked you to give up something comfortable this week, would your first instinct be yes, or would it be to negotiate?
Are there places you’d rather stay in charge and stressed than hand over and trust?
Does an interruption to your schedule feel like a threat, or an invitation?
Then hold that space up against one actual relationship in your life. Are you valuing that person for who they are, or extracting something from them?
Name what you find, out loud, to Jesus. Maybe to someone else. These things rarely loosen in isolation.
Lydia didn’t earn her freedom. She opened her hands and let it in. The same Jesus who spoke one sentence and freed the girl in the marketplace has already spoken over whatever has a grip on you. Not managed. Not white-knuckled. Defeated.
