Quiet Table Guide: Aug 23-29
Scripture for the week: Acts 16:1-10
When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. — Acts 16:7
1. Ready Your Heart
Begin with a moment of silence or a short prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together.
2. Read
Slowly read this week’s passage. (Consider reading it out loud or in a different translation each day.)
3. Reflect
What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today? What in your life might the Holy Spirit be drawing your attention to?
4. Respond
How can you allow this word to shape your interactions, decisions, or perspective today?
5. Receive
Spend a few moments in stillness, surrendering your thoughts, plans, and actions to God and resting in the presence of Jesus.
6. Practice: Stop the Score Keeping
Choose one time each day that already exists on your calendar, a commute, a lunch break, the last few minutes before sleep, and pray it there.
First, ask God to show you one place where you are keeping score with him. Not in general terms. One specific place. A sacrifice you made and are quietly waiting to be repaid for.
Second, ask the Holy Spirit to help you carry the weight of whatever is still unmet. Not to explain it away. Just to help you carry it.
Third, ask Jesus to help you live his way this week in light of the freedom that is already yours, not to earn anything further from him.
You are not trying to resolve the tension by the end of the week. Timothy didn’t get an explanation for the closed doors either. You are simply bringing the scorecard to God each day instead of carrying it alone.
If nothing surfaces on a given day, that’s fine. Show up to the same time and place tomorrow and ask again.
