Quiet Table Guide: Aug 16-22
Scripture for the week: Acts 15:11
We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.
1. Ready Your Heart
Begin with a moment of silence or a short prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your time together.
2. Read
Slowly read this week’s passage. (Consider reading it out loud or in a different translation each day.)
3. Reflect
What word, phrase, or image stands out to you today? What in your life might the Holy Spirit be drawing your attention to?
4. Respond
How can you allow this word to shape your interactions, decisions, or perspective today?
5. Receive
Spend a few moments in stillness, surrendering your thoughts, plans, and actions to God and resting in the presence of Jesus.
6. Practice: One Conviction, Three Questions
This week, bring one conviction to God in whatever time you already set aside to be quiet before him.
Choose one place where you hold something strongly, and someone else in your life, maybe someone right here in this church family, doesn’t seem to hold it the same way.
Then ask the Holy Spirit three questions.
Is this something scripture ties directly to the gospel, or is this something faithful believers across scripture and church history have held differently?
Have I quietly turned this into a gate, deciding who really belongs and who doesn’t, when God never asked me to guard that gate?
What would it look like to hold this conviction with open hands toward the person who doesn’t share it, not surrendering it, but making room for them at the table anyway?
You are not trying to resolve the tension in one sitting.
You are bringing it to the one who already resolved the deeper question of whether you belong to him.
That was settled at the cross.
If the conviction feels too tender to name yet, sit with the first question alone this week. The other two will still be there when you’re ready.
If you find yourself wanting to go deeper, write down what surfaces. The Spirit tends to keep returning to the same conviction until something softens.
